I had this issue updating management components on Windows 7. (I had previously installed SP2 on 5 Exchange servers without any issue)

I located servicecontrol.ps1 and removed winmgmt from the control arrays

Line 41: $script:servicesToControl['Common']
Line 58: $script:servicesToControl['Critical']

(Although line 41 may have sufficed alone.)
Installation was flawless–even all the disabled services were reset prior to the finalization stage.

I’m having the same issue, trying to upgrade to SP 2 from Exchange 2010 SP1 RU 6. I get the AuthorizationManager check failed error message. This then blows away my Exchange binaries and then disables WMI, I then renable, try SP2 again, then it fails again. I cannot get this to install.

The exact same thing happened to our server with Exchange 2010 sp1 ru6 when we tried to upgrade it to sp2. Fortunately I also had a snapshot ready.

Solution: Setting the WMI service back to Automatic (during the install process).

Always always take a snapshot before updating Exchange.
